Summary
If you’re looking for a small epilator just to take on holiday or travelling then you’ll be okay with this one. It’s battery operated which isn’t great for a regular epilator but fine for short term use and it means that you don’t need to carry a lead or charger with you.
There have been reports of it being particularly painful on sensitive skin and it isn’t the most comfortable epilator on sensitive areas. This is a holiday only epilator really – invest in a better brand for more long term use.

In-Depth Review
Emjoi is an American company specialising in epilation and pedicures. Although their website makes some pretty big claims about being a ‘world leader’ in those types of products, they seem to mainly be sold on home shopping channels and the like which doesn’t fill you with confidence. Nevertheless, they have equal good press and bad press and have certainly stuck around for a while.
The Emjoi AP-9L Epi Slim comes with:
- 1x Epilator
This epilator is super small and really slim so I can see why it would be useful for travelling. It doesn’t look like the most robust product out there but it’s not bad and has a nice plain, cream design with a cap. It’s battery operated which I’m not a big fan off but if you’re travelling with it then at least you wouldn’t need to take along a charger.

This epilator isn’t designed for large areas and so isn’t particularly suitable for legs. Bikini line, armpits and face are apparently fine but, in reality, are painful and awkward. It’s not the fastest epilator to use by a long shot but with patience it will get the job done. If you just wanted a spare epilator for travelling and not normal use then this isn’t a bad option.
It fits nicely in the hand but is pretty noisy so it’s not the most subtle of tools. It doesn’t always pick up fine and very short hairs even if you repeatedly go over them so it’s not ideal if you’re looking for a flawless job. It’s pretty reasonably priced and I would take it on holiday with me for the size and convenience.
