- Excellent, long lasting results
- Contoured plates for smooth curls, waves and straightness
- Totally snag-free
- Comes with sectioning hair clips
- Not sure it’s worth more than standard GHDs
- Iridescent purple/teal colouring might not appeal to all
Although this set of GHDs will give you a beautiful finish in any style you want, unless buying it as a gift, I’m not totally convinced it’s any better than a cheaper set of GHDs. It seems that the main reason for the price difference is hair clips (cheap to buy separately), the travel pouch (not any different from standard heat-proof pouches) and the two-tone iridescent colouring (not necessarily the most attractive look anyway).
As a result, I think the GHD IV Styler is just as good in terms of effectiveness and isn’t as expensive. If you want to buy this set for someone then by all means, it’d make an awesome gift; but if you’re just after an exceptionally high quality straightener, than look into ghd and buy your hair clips at the pharmacy.
GHD (Good Hair Day) have been the world’s favourite hair straightening brand for some years now and have never really let us down. Started in 2001 when a pair of entrepreneurs bought the design from a South Korean inventor, GHD has made sure to only create the best products possible and have focused on quality rather than quantity in offerings.
Although their hair straighteners are always up near the top when it comes to price, their tools are built to last and they rely on their reputation to keep the company going. This reputation is so strong in fact, that in the first two years of existence, they used no advertising at all!
The GHD Wonderland Gift Set comes with:
- 1x Hair straighteners
- 2x Hair clips
- 1x Storage/travel pouch
- 1x Tong end protector
- 1x Gift box
When these GHDs arrive, the first thing you see is a pretty swish box, but still, it’s what’s inside that counts. Unlike almost all other GHDs (black with gold plates) this set is ‘ChromaFlair’ which looks not unlike those two-tone paint jobs you see on Vauxhall Novas…it doesn’t look bad but it’s personal preference really. It comes with a nice storage/travel pouch and two hair clips to help separate your hair for super-effective straightening. Also included is an end piece to keep the tongs together when not in use.
Regardless of the pretty ‘out there’ aesthetic design, these straighteners instantly make you happy you’ve got them because they work so beautifully. The contoured black plates allow for not only easy straightening, but also easy waving and curling. This shape means that you can achieve any style you like without any hint of snagging or catching and edges won’t leave odd-looking lines or dents in your hair.
Heating up incredibly fast, these straighten really fast too and you’ll rarely need to go over the same section twice. The two included section clips are really useful and goes to show that GHD have thought this product through. The results, whether it’s curls or a dead-straight look you’ve gone for, will last you until you wash your hair every time.
The ghd Wonderland Gift Set styler has an automatic shut up after thirty minutes, which is one of the best you’ll find on the market. While many other brands also have automatic shut off features, it’s usually after an hour which is a pretty long time for something so hot to be accidentally unattended and still on. This is a safety feature that feels like some real thought has gone into it, rather than just a for-the-sake-of-it attribute.
With a 2.7 metre cord, you don’t need to hover by the plug socket and it should be easily long enough to reach to your mirror unless you have a palatial bedroom! The end protector sheath is a nice touch and looks neat too.
As with most GHDs, these have a good weight to them and are obviously well made and built to last. The design will definitely appeal to a lot of people but the set as a whole is really designed as a nice gift rather than a great deal.
